DOG ADOPTION AGREEMENT

If you cannot meet a dog’s simple needs, please reconsider getting a dog at this time. We only allow our dogs to go to homes that meet the following criteria:

1. This dog is to be an equal member of the family and therefore every member of its family must want it equally, and feel the same way about its inherent worthiness. (initial) ______
2. This dog will be separated from its family as little as possible. This dog will not be alone for more than six hours at a time, unless under extraordinary circumstances. (initial) ________
3. This dog will not be forced to stay in confinement by itself for long periods of time either in your home or outside in a fenced area. (initial) _______
4. This dog will not be tethered, except for short periods of time, i.e. on the ferry, or under extraordinary circumstances. (initial) _______
5. This dog shall never be used as a guard dog. All dogs will loyally warn and defend, but it is not their primary purpose. (initial) _______
6. This dog shall never be without personal identification on its collar, this is to include your name, address and telephone number written clearly. (initial) ______
7. This dog, if picked up or taken by the pound, must not remain there past the time you have been notified of its confinement. If any Walker’s Animal Rescue Centre dog is left at a pound, we shall immediately reclaim the dog. (initial) _______
8. If this dog goes missing, Walker’s ARC will be notified immediately so that we can assist in finding it. (initial) ________
9. This dog shall not be euthanized without Walker’s ARC permission under any circumstances. (initial) _______
10. This dog’s health will be maintained with the same consideration as any other member of its family. (initial) ______
11. This dog will not be allowed to become infested with fleas or other parasites. No flea collars or over the counter flea products shall be used, as many of them are toxic. Please see your vet for treatment.
12. This dog shall have plenty of exercise, stimulation and socializing with dogs appropriate to its age and size. Walking a dog on a leash may not be a sufficient amount of exercise for active dogs. Dogs love and deserve free run parks, woods, beaches and areas to explore and play (initial) _____
13. This dog shall not be crated, either for training or punishment ever. Crating is too easily abused and if lots of love, example, behaviour modification, training and consistency are used, almost not punishment will be necessary.
14. This dog shall not be transferred to any other person without Walker’s ARC written permission. We may very well approve of a new family member if you must give up your dog for any reason, but we must screen them just as we screened you, and the new family member must sign the adoption agreement. We will take back any dog at any time, and it will always be safe and loved with us, never in a cell and never killed. (initial) ____
15. It is understood that Walker’s ARC may examine and enquire about this dog at any time. You are also giving us permission to come onto your premises and inspect the dog’s living conditions any time that we may have concerns or questions about the dog’s well-being .(initial) _____
16. If the terms and conditions of this agreement are not upheld, Walker’s ARC reserves the right to terminate this agreement and to reclaim this dog. (initial) _____
